Basics of Search Engine Ranking and Reporting
Step One: enter URL's into your search engine ranking software.
Enter the URL or URL's you'll be ranking. Using the complete URL's that include the protocol (i.e., http://) makes finding rankings on the Search Engines easier.
Step Two: Enter Keywords into your search engine ranking software.
Enter the keywords, commonly referred to as Search Terms, to be used in ranking the URL's entered in the Step One.
Select Three: Select the Search Engines.
Select the Search Engines within your search engine ranking software that will be used in ranking the URL's entered in Step One. Your keywords will be passed directly to the search engines for searching. The results returned from the search engines is what will be used to determine your ranking based on the entered URL's.
Use the Select By button on the toolbar to quickly select the search engines for your project. Alternately, click the checkbox next to each search engine you wish to include in your project.
Step Four: Get Rankings with your search engine ranking software.
The fourth step is used in ranking the URL's in the first step by the keywords entered in the second step. Click the Get Rankings button on the toolbar to start the ranking process. Alternately, select a keyword or one or more search engines, or a combination of both, and click the Get Selected Rankings button.
Step Five: Archived Rankings
Here's where you manage prior rankings. This step allows you to remove unwanted rankings from your project file and add comments that can show on the reports. You see your Ranking Folder, the Weekday of the search, the Matching Number of Terms and Engines and the Total Matches.
There's also a field where you can enter in specific notes for the specific search results. This will visit you again when you go to the Summary Reports and be found at the bottom.

Reporting has three simple choices that open up a world of information:

Position Summaries and Position Changes: by Keyword/Engine, & Engine/Keyword.
Average Positions, Top Pages, Top Positions: by Keyword/Engine, Engine/Keyword, Keyword, Engine, Page.
Analysis Charts with your search engine ranking software.
There are currently 5 stock charts in the Analysis Charts group.
Top Rankings: by Pages and Positions.
Position Changes: by Add/Drop, Up/Down, and Ranking Little button hides a big choice: a score ot tabs for areas to Edit Chart(s).
Exports from your search engine ranking software.
Select one of the available exports to generate data in the table on the right. To include a header row when exporting, select the Include Header button from the tool bar before exporting the data.
Information is shown in colums by Date, Keyword, Engine, First Page, 2nd Page, 3rd Page, All Others, and URL. You can also sort by each column.
Available Export grouping of information includes Ranking Positions, Top Pages, Top Positions, keyword Placements, TopDog Pro, and CSV Export.
Export formats include CSV, SLM, Word, HTML, SMT, and ASCII.
Two other things to note:
The application shows a Quick Help at Startup Turn this option off when you don't need the Quick Help. Even with this option off, you can still show Quick Help when you need it and there is a good Help section for more extensive suggestions.
You can import projects from WebPosition Gold and TopDog Pro so you don't have to start over with your information or your history of reports.
